Spark Grants 2019 – Applications Open!

Our Spark Grants are now in their 3rd year – and applications for the 2019 cycle are now open!

What are Spark Grants?

Designed to kickstart projects that positively benefit communities across South Africa, the grants exist to bring the principles that inform AfrikaBurn alive in some way. Over the past 2 years, the grants have seen a very wide variety of community initiatives and social development projects funded, including community & school food gardens, environmental campaigns, community bicycle workshops, theatre and arts workshops and many others.

How do they work?

Funding of R5000 is provided for each grant, to spark a project that advances our guiding principles in the default world. Anyone can apply for a Spark Grant, but the project needs to be nominated (in addition to the applicant) by a participant of Ephemeropolis (AfrikaBurn 2019).

You will need the ID or passport number; cell phone number; and email address of a nominator.

General criteria:

  • Projects need to take place within the Republic of South Africa
  • All projects are ordinarily to be completed between 1 August 2019 and 31 January 2020
  • Spark Grants can not be used for salaries or stipends.
  • Successful applicants will be required to sign a grant agreement and account for their expenditure.
  • Previous applicants may not apply for the same project.

Application deadline: 30 June 2019 12h00 (GMT+2).
