The road to Tankwa Town is still a long way off – but the journey has already started for the many of you bringing projects to the dust. If uou’ve registered a project, or plan to, and you’re looking for funding, here’s the news: the Creative Grant Application window has been extended!
The long process of reviewing Creative Grant applications for next year’s event has started! And although the grant pot is never adequately matched with the creative intentions of our community, it is our intention that everybody has a chance at it. This is why we’re extending the Creative Grant Applications period.
Applications were pegged at closing on October 28th 2016 – but in order to provide our community with just a little more time, they’ve been extended to midnight Sunday November 6th.
To be fair on those of you who rushed their application to get it in on time, please know that you have now another week to apply and edit it. We hope this helps to with more accurate planning and budgeting.
The Creative Grant Assessment process is a long and intricate one, and for our Art Committee to be able to communicate the outcome to all applicants by the end of November, the 6th November is the very latest they can receive grant applications.
For your reference, these are 6 of the main Grant Assessment Criteria:
1. ARTISTIC OR CULTURAL MERIT
Is it innovative? Experimental? Does it challenge inherent barriers?
Does it have a statement? Does it feel culturally significant?
Is it plainly, funny, clever, beautiful, interactive?
2. IMPACT & INTERACTIVITY
What impact will it have on the AfrikaBurn gathering and the cultural landscape in general?
What level of engagement does it invite?
3. LEGACY & SUSTAINABILITY
What does the project leave behind? Infrastructure? Skills development? Can it be repurposed? Will it have a life after Tankwa Town?
Will the project create new opportunities in its making or its inventing? Does it reach out?
4. CATALYTIC EFFECT
Will it generate new genres, audiences, debate?
5. CHANCES OF SUCCESS
Likelihood of delivery?
Are the skills available to achieve the aims of the project? And what’s the crew or artist’s track record at AfrikaBurn and/or, as in alternative projects elsewhere in the world…at other events/burn events. Does the applicant have a track record of successful projects?
Is there sufficient organisational capacity?
6. VALUE FOR MONEY & IDEALISM
Does the project have a plan to use waste materials or recycled / environmentally-friendly to make the work?
Got a project you’re planning on bringing to our 2017 event? Registered one already? Looking for funding? The window’s still open:
